Summer Solstice Ritual

Led by Paul Patton and Michael Pistrui

We will celebrate Summer Solstice with an outdoor ritual in the Grove, reaffirming the Unitarian Universalist value of stewardship and communion with the Earth and our natural environment. This day marks the time of greatest  sunlight as we pass through the wheel of year, but it also marks the time when we begin the march towards the season of greatest darkness. We will reflect on this time as a period of strength and transformation in our individual lives and the life of our community. As part of this ritual, we will construct a woodlands faery shrine just off of the Grove. Please bring gifts and offerings (e.g., stones, beads, herbs, crafts, etc.) to the ritual to offer up to the construction of the shrine, and perhaps the fey will return your well wishes with gifts of their own. Children are welcome and encouraged to participate as we weave together myth and tales of old to create and strengthen our bond with the Earth and all her children.

Thursday, April 19: An Introductory Workshop on Land-Based Craft

Many Pagan and Wiccan traditions are considered earth-based paths to spirituality. In this workshop, we will explore: finding local “work-sites”, identifying and utilizing plant allies, as well as building a relationship with our local environment and the spirits and beings who inhabit it. As part of the application portion of the workshop, we will be consuming teas and tinctures from plants grown in Athens County to aid in our spiritual awareness and interactions.

Recipes and recommended readings will be provided.

This even will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 7:00-8:30pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens.

It’s Spring and Colors are Everywhere!

Some extra hints at picking amulet colors for the Spring Equinox

At our spring equinox ritual, we will be creating amulets to aid us in whatever work we are currently taking on in our lives. This year we have a much wider variety of cloth from which to choose. While you just may go with the flow and pick something you like, you can also choose intentionally and pick colors and/or symbols which compliment the magick and area that you will be working on.

Here are some ideas about colors and symbolism. Your mileage may vary – remember this is just one way of interpreting colors and symbols. Feel free to work with whatever’s best for you.

Cloth Colors Element Properties
Yellow Air Communication, clarity, mindfulness, decisiveness, mental acuity, drawing lines, travel, astral projection, knowledge, focus, concentration and learning.
Red Fire Passion, lust, love, active protection, willfulness, courage, creativity, determination, aggression, anger, righteous indignation and transformation. Also the color of the Goddess in her Mother form.
Blue Water Love, emotions, relationships, intuition, dreams, peacefulness,
protection and tranquility.
Green Earth Stability, balance, grounding, healing, prosperity, fertility, growth, rejuvenation, the physical body, calming energy, wealth and endurance.
Purple Spirit Psychic awareness and powers, spiritual connections, deep healing, meditation, inspiration, spirituality and the “universal flow”.
Brown Earth Stability, grounding, concentration, overcoming financial crises,
material gain and working with animals.
Orange Fire/Air Good luck and fortune, active energy, physical energy, optimism, attraction, illusion and charm.
Pink Water/Fire Romance, emotional love, heart’s desire and emotional healing.
Ribbon Colors
Silver Moon Goddess energy, protection, cycles, banishing negativity andreincarnation.
Gold Sun God energy, attraction, perfection, power and riches.
Symbols Meanings/Representations
Spiral Birth, death, rebirth; cycle of the seasons; growth and change.
Star Four elements plus spirit, reaching toward enlightenment, inspiration.
Leaf Growth
Paisley Stylized mango, which are fruits of the happy fulfillment of worldly or material desires; auspiciousness.

Two Celebrations of the Spring Equinox!

We will be holding two… yes TWO different rituals to celebrate the Spring Equinox. Hopefully you will be able to make it to at least one of them!

Friday, March 16 @ 8pm
Pentacle of Balance Ritual
The Circle of Gaia Dreaming will be holding our traditional Pentacle of Balance ritual – now revived for a rare Friday evening event. Walk the pentacle to create a personal amulet. Feel free to bring drums -
as a big chunk of the ritual involves drumming and chanting. We will have a finger-food potluck after the ritual, so feel free to bring something to share as well.

Sunday, March 18 @ 10:30am
Ritual: Spring Equinox
As the sun wheel turns us towards spring, the Earth renews herself. Join us for a morning of celebrating the returning fertility of the Earth and the abundant blessings of this season.

A Class – Crafting Personal Ritual

Thursdays
January 26 – March 1 from 7:00-8:30pm

This is a six-part class that will explore personal ritual in a Pagan/Wiccan context. Despite this, participants are urged to create their own personal rituals and ritual pieces from their own spiritual center – whatever that may be. We will be using Starhawk’s classic ‘Spiral Dance’ as a jumping off point for discussion, as well as using many of her meditations and visualization exercises.

There is no cost for this class and it is open to anyone, regardless of experience level. Participants will need a copy of Spiral Dance. (It really doesn’t matter which edition – 1st, 10th, 20th or Kindle!) Also, participants should bring a journal or notebook and something to write with as well!
